Finding the Joy in Tough Times

I don’t know about you, but January seemed like a very long month. So much has happened and while my life is generally going well, what is happening in my country is more concerning than ever.

In fact, it’s been difficult to focus on my health and life coaching business with everything going on. It often feels like it’s not as important as getting out to protest, boycotting the corporations that support the United States administration, and supporting the local organizations that help people.

What that means is that it’s been more than a year since I’ve done any kind of inspirational video on social media, I’m only sending an email out every other week, and I’ve had a hard time diving into writing my book on gut health.

I’ve realized that I need to find some balance, and it’s still important to work on my book, among other things. After all, both my son and daughter have been struggling with gut health issues. I’ve also set a big fitness-related goal for myself by entering a bike racing series. I ride my bike because it makes me feel happy and strong. I’m also meeting new people that enjoy riding their bikes and reuniting with old friends that I used to ride with. And I’m challenging myself; I finished the first of the bike races I signed up for. It was hard and I went in and out of a lot of self-doubt, but I finished!

So, I’m here to encourage you in this wild, horrible time we’re living in, to get out and do what makes YOU happy, whether it’s making art, being outdoors, connecting with friends, or watching a movie.

  • If we don’t do what gives us joy, they win.  
  • If you don’t take care of yourself, they win.
  • If you don’t connect with others, they win.

Get out there, and be with your community! And I’ll be back next time with content about balancing cortisol, which seems particularly appropriate.
