Helping You Create Your Extraordinary Life

It Might Be Time to Go Home

Earlier this year, I set a goal to complete a series of five gravel bike races. My reasons were simple: I wanted something to keep me getting on the bike even when I didn't feel like it, I wanted to build my community of fellow cyclists (especially other women), and it's something I get to do with my husband, since it's how we met in the first place.

I've now completed four out of the five races, with the last one just around the corner. And looking back, I can honestly say the goal has delivered on all three fronts. I've shown up on my bike more often than not, I've deepened some really wonderful friendships, and my husband and I have genuinely enjoyed most of our rides and weekends away — even when it didn't feel fun in the moment!

But I'll also be honest about something else: I am really looking forward to spending less time on the bike and more time hiking and paddleboarding.

When "Go Hard or Go Home" Backfires

I've noticed something among some of my women friends who ride. The...

Get Back in the Groove - A Simple 7 Day Challenge

As I sit here realizing we’re shifting from summer into fall, I have to admit—I’m feeling a little unsteady. You know that feeling when life finally slows down, and you suddenly notice you aren’t quite sure where you are headed next? That’s where I am right now.

These past few months, I’ve been incredibly focused on helping my daughter prepare for her big post-college move across the country. Then there’s my son—after years of being deeply involved in his health journey, I’m now watching him gain independence and confidence as he takes charge of his own supplements, meals, and appointments. It’s a different feeling, watching my kids turn into adults before my eyes.

With all these shifts and changes, It’s taking me a bit to find my footing and get on with my own things that had been put on the back burner. Things like writing my book and getting my group coaching program relaunched. I’m trying to be patient with myself, but I know that I need a big exhale before I can refocus.

So, ...

Goals Slipping? Try Doing Less

We’re already a few weeks into January —how are those New Year’s resolutions holding up? If you’re starting to feel overwhelmed or are slipping back into old habits, you’re not alone. Many people find themselves losing momentum after the initial excitement fades. But here’s the good news: achieving your goals might be easier if you focus on doing less, not more.

The Problem with Overloading Yourself

Research shows that piling on too many goals or tasks can lead to decision fatigue—a mental drain that makes it harder to stick to new habits. When your brain is overloaded with decisions, your willpower weakens, and motivation starts to fade. So, how can you avoid this common trap?

The Power of Simplifying

The solution is simple: do less! Focusing on fewer, more impactful actions can make a world of difference. Ask yourself: What unnecessary steps can I eliminate? Simplifying isn’t about doing less for the sake of it; it’s about being strategic and intentional.

Here are a few ways to ...

Clean Up Your Mental Clutter

Listen on The Extraordinary Life Podcast

Back when the pandemic really hit and the kids were stuck in their rooms every day doing schoolwork, my daughter’s mental health took a hit. Her room got very little natural light, so we switched my brighter office with her bedroom and it helped a lot. Now that she is gone to college, though, it’s time for me to switch back. The back and forth has involved a fair bit of physical decluttering, and I feel so much lighter with less “stuff” to manage. The same principle works in your brain, too. When you clean up your mental clutter, your mind has more space to work and play in.

Some signs that your mental clutter is bogging you down are feelings of overwhelm or being over-stimulated, confused, and even disoriented when it comes to everyday life and decisions. Our modern world moves quickly, and with quick access to the internet and social media, it’s easy to become over-stimulated. Just as we need to take care of our bodies and the space we p...

Developing a Mindset for Momentum

Listen instead on The Extraordinary Life Podcast

Once you learn to create momentum in your life, achieving your goals and dreams becomes so much easier. That’s right, you can create it! Developing a mindset for momentum will help you to do a little more every day to move closer to what you want, and less of what’s holding you back. It sounds simple, yet many of us struggle to maintain momentum, even when we briefly find it. Let’s find out why, so we can counteract those negatives and turn them into positives.

Ways People Fail to Create the Momentum They Want

Despite what it feels like when you experience positive momentum in life, it doesn’t just happen. It’s a coming together of a lot of little pieces that support one another (and you!) to keep moving forward. Thus, when we are missing some of the pieces, creating momentum becomes a lot harder. Let’s fix that! Here are four ways we fail at creating momentum, and the positive alternatives.

1. Failure to See Beyond the Present. Ev...
